When signing up to play a hero or villain, the following rules will apply.
1. A maximum of three characters are allowed (including created characters), and must not be in the same "family". For example, a player couldn't choose Batman and Robin, or Batman and the Joker. However, they could choose Batman and Lex Luthor, as an example. This is to spread the roleplay out and not lock up certain heroes and villains under one person. Also, there will be a waiting period of two to three weeks in between submitting each character (not counting created characters). This is to prevent "rushes" on popular characters, as well as making sure the rooms not fillled with characters that never get played. The only exception to this is the possibility of a 4th character slot. This 4th character slot is not mandatory, however, it can ONLY be occupied by a Lantern (created or canon and any color but Black, see this thread regarding Lanterns in Ultimate DC).
2. All canon characters are considered "Probationary". This means that a character can be taken away if abused, or if not played for a certain amount of time without prior notice to the Council. For example, if you god mod, you will lose the character. If you're going to be gone from the room for any great length of time, please be considerate and release the character so that others can play it. We will ONLY hold characters if there is a valid reason for that absence, and it will be done on a case by case basis. Reasons such as "not feeling the roleplay" or "I'm more interested in playing X game" are NOT good reasons for not rp'ing your character.
3. No new player will be allowed a power ranking above Amazing for a period of six to eight weeks. This will allow the Ultimate DC Council to watch how you roleplay, how often you roleplay your character, and whether or not granting an increase in rank would be beneficial in any way to your character and the room. If you already have an approved character already, the determination on power ranking will be determined by the above criteria, though we'll be a little more flexible. At the very least, if you hardly play in the room, be sure you won't get approved for any power higher than Amazing. If, after this probationary period, it is determined that your character is to be granted a power rank upgrade, it will only increase to the next level. Any power ranking at Unearthly and above will always be subject to Council approval, regardless of standing in the room. As always, the Council reserves the right to approve or deny power rankings regardless of level, depending on whether that power is deemed too powerful for the room.
4. Some characters will be on the Ban List, simply due to being too powerful to play in the room. As such, Ban List characters will not be allowed for play in the room, and if they make an appearance, it will be limited and most likely played by the Council as an npc, unless otherwise arranged. If players are allowed to play a Ban List character for some reason, it will be for a stated period of time and they cannot play it after that time has expired. So for example, if you're allowed to play Doomsday for the night's rp session, you will not be allowed to later play him just because you played him once. Doing so will cause a forfeiture of all characters in play by you (except for created characters), so don't do it. Period. Please keep in mind that the Ban List is in no way comprehensive and complete, and as such, the Council reserves the right to add and remove characters as is deemed necessary, even if you put it up to be approved. Should a player bring to Council attention a character that is overly powerful or not appropriate for the room, it will be added to the Ban List immediately.
5. Please remember that Ultimate DC is a role playing room set in the universe of the DC comics, specifically. As such, any character from other comics (i.e. Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, etc.) will not be allowed, nor will created characters based on any characters from other comic universes be allowed (i.e. no created character that is essentially Wolverine or Spider-man, etc). Also, certain characters within the DC imprint may also be completely off limits. An example of this is the Watchmen. While the Watchmen are technically DC, their universe doesn't intersect with the universe that contains Batman, Superman, etc.
6. This is not so much a rule as a general information kind of thing. When submitting a character, the Council will try to work with you to give you a character that you'll actually enjoy playing, however keep in mind that we are human, we make mistakes, and we won't always see eye to eye. We are more than willing to work with you, however we ask that you be willing to work with us in return. We will endeavor to get your character approved, or to help get it to a point where it can be approved, however we also have r/t needs and things that the Council needs to deal with as well. So, we ask that if you haven't been approved fairly quick, please be patient with us.
Thank you for your interest in playing in Ultimate DC. We hope that your time with us is a fun one.
