History: Dr. Harleen Quinzell was a young psychiatrist of questionable skill and ethics who had wrangled herself an internship at Gotham City's notorious Arkham Asylum, in the hopes of garnering material for an exploitive bestseller on its famous inmates. Unfortunately, she ended up falling under the spell of the Joker, who ran any number of mind games on her during her attempts at therapy with him. Her own sanity took a serious beating, and she ended up falling head over heels in love with the psychotic trickster.
After realizing the futility of this love, Harleen left Arkham Asylum and opened a Private Practice. Those who came to her for therapy were among both the criminal and the law enforcers. Harleen's contacts grew through the practice and eventually she was in a position to begin to use her knowledge to her own ends.
Harleen became Harley Quinn one night after using some particular juicy bit of knowledge against a gotham police detective who had come to see her many times. This knowledge led to her coming into possession of stolen weapons and getting on the last nerve of many a villain and many more heroes.
Currently, Harley is working for herself. Still at her private practice, though once they realized that their stories weren't so confidential, many of her clients left, some disappearing completely. Trying to keep out of the way of both the bad guys and the good guys, Harley is merely trying to survive, and keep clear of her greatest weakness... the Joker.
