All players are expected to read, understand and abide by the following rules, when in the Ultimate DC chat room, NO EXCEPTIONS:
Player Guidlines:
1) HAVE FUN! This is a game, the object of which is to enjoy oneself, and get away from the mundane life we all lead. Knowingly impeding, and seeking to impede, another's fun is seen as a serious offense. So don't do it. If you have an issue with the way things are going, please speak to that player in private. As a last resort, you can always post a pm to a Council member, and we will be more than happy to take a look at the situation and determine what, if anything, needs to be done about it.
2) Story and Character. The purpose of the game is to tell stories. The stories are the stage, the characters the actors that play upon it. Every good story has elements of adventure, drama, horror and even romance. Understand that at times, your character will be the "hero", triumphing against horrendous odds. Other times, your character will be chased, harrowed and generally unable to catch even the smallest of breaks. Take it in stride and enjoy the ride. You are NOT your character, so keep it there. Don't bring rp to ooc, or ooc to rp.
3) Metagaming (see definition below). Don't do it! Basically, this is taking information that you, the player, have access to, which you then use to for your character, who has no possible way of knowing.
metagaming v.
The act of using information gleaned as a player otherwise unknown to a player's character in such a way as to effect how that character is played.
The act of knowingly having a player's character pursue a course of action in game that is reflective of situations that have arisen apart from the game itself.
For example, you and another character are having drinks. The other character posts thoughts about how easy it's going to be to poison you, and slips it in when you aren't looking. When that character comes back, you post spilling the drink, or refusing it, when clearly, your character would take and drink it, not knowing it was poisoned. The only exception would be if your character had an ability to read minds, and only then, if you had actually posted that you were doing so. In short, keep ooc info out of rp. If you're caught, you will be called on it, and could have your rp invalidated.
4) Council-played NPCs are not Player Characters (PCs). Their purpose are as plot devices. They are catalysts, allies, enemies, and extras, whose only purpose is to further the story and to enhance the experience for the players. These are played ONLY by the Council, unless permission is otherwise given. In short, do not play them, and do not bring them into your rp. If you feel they're needed, please speak to a Council member, and we will determine if they are indeed necessary.
5) All players must have an approved character sheet to play in the room. The minimum age a character can be is 18. There will be NO underage player characters EVER.
6) Player-to-Player Conflict. In the event that there is a conflict between two player characters, both players must be present for any form of RP that would essentially result in the death of a player character, or anything else that's major, and a Council member must be present to observe/moderate. Otherwise, post the script to the boards for a Council member to judge.
Room Guidelines
In addition to following the guidelines and rules as set forth by Chat Studios (http://chatstudio.net/rules.htm), the following rules will also be in effect:
1) Respect your fellow players. Please refrain from posting rude or inconsiderate posts, or posts putting down other people's role play. We all have varying skills of rp and writing. It matters less that your posts are Shakespearean in their magnitude, than it does that you are giving it an honest effort. Be supportive.
2) OOC Posts. Excessive OOC chatting is disruptive to rp, and is disrespectful to your fellow players. Posting a "hi" or a "waves" to someone coming in, or a "bye" to someone leaving is ok. Having whole conversations is not. If you feel the need to have a whole OOC conversation, please take it to PMs or a chat program, such as MSN or Yahoo. If you have a specific question about game mechanics, or rp (general or otherwise), then that is allowable. If you post unreasonable OOC, you will be asked to take it to PM. The second time will be to warn you. The third time will be to boot you from the room for up to 30 minutes, longer as needed.
3) This is NOT a cyber sex room. If that's what you're looking for, feel free to look around on our room's host site (if you select Leaves from the PD, you should be taken to that page). There are plenty of rooms that cater to that particular taste. This is a comics based room based on the DC comics universe. While we're not particularly against relationships that lead to anything of a sexual nature, it is expected that that sort of thing be taken to pm, keeping the out in the open chat to PG-13 rated content.
All players are expected to have read and understood the rules as set forth by the Ultimae DC staff. These rules are subject to change at any time, and any determinations made by Ultimate DC Council members is final. We will strive to be as fair and even-handed as possible, but we are also there to ensure everyone has a good time. Help us to help you by following these rules and guidelines.
